This is World Communion Sunday in the wider Christian calendar, and it falls right as Simchat Torah closes (the Jewish holiday ends at nightfall on Oct. 4, when the Torah scroll is rewound and reading begins again at Genesis 1). This creates a rich double resonance: what courage does it take to sit down across real difference—political, theological, cultural—and what courage does it take to start reading the same old processes one more time, expecting to find something new in it.
