In 1949 the International Music Council was formed as part of UNESCO. The point was to use music to inspire peace and harmony. Yehudi Menuhin, in my opinion America’s greatest violinist, was President of the council in the 1970’s and wrote an open letter proclaiming an “International Music Day.”
Applying UNESCO’s ideals of peace and friendship, October first is the time for a sharing of life experiences in all cultures through concerts, exhibitions, seminars on creating music, lectures, music conferences, and so on.
So, let’s have a concert!
I’ll endeavor to put together some multicultural examples of songs. with words and a little instrumental music to dance to. I hope you can drop in.
Likely songs:
- Common Ground
- To Be Your Friend
- Afraid to Come to Love
- Somos El Barco
- Let This Be a House of Peace
- The World Needs Your Voice
- Shall We Rejoice?
I will be live streaming and you can tune in at any of the following places Wednesday October 1st at 8PM EDT!
