Greetings from the Refugee Ministry Team. This is an appeal for donations to help an Afghan man, who is currently detained by ICE, with his legal expenses and potential bond. Several of us who are part of this congregation have developed close friendships with a number of Afghan refugees. We started out as volunteers, but over time, the relationships have deepened.
Recently we learned that this member of our network of Afghan families was detained when he appeared at the ICE Detention Center in Burlington MA for a scheduled appointment. Suddenly what we have been seeing in the news has become personal. The conditions in the ICE facilities are in reality as inhumane as you can imagine. He has bond and asylum hearings scheduled for later this month, assuming they take place on those dates. The hearings have already been rescheduled once.
Being an ICE detainee is extremely expensive. His legal fees are already in the thousands, and if he is granted bond, it will be many thousands more. He has no financial resources of his own. Assuming he is granted bond, which will be returned to him when appears for legal proceedings, we will be using any funds not needed for his other legal expenses to set up a fund to help other ICE detainees.
If you would like to make a donation, please contact Ann Hollander by email at . She will provide information on where and how to send your donation.
