Mathematicians and scientists exploring weather and other chaotic phenomena acknowledge that small efforts sometimes have huge effects. Marge Piercy wrote, “Connections are made slowly, sometimes they grow underground. You cannot tell always by looking what is happening.” We will dive into some of the history of social movements, and small groups of concerned people making a difference. Where are the places we can create intentional change and grow hope, from where we are?

Kye Flannery is an interfaith humanist chaplain in the UMass hospital system, and for fun and grounding practices Buddhist meditation and metalwork, which are not so different as they might seem.
