On Sunday, September 13, 2026, members and friends are invited to gather in person and online for our Annual Fall Sunday Morning Worship of Return following our summer ventures. This service will include a Water Ceremony, a tradition we have observed for many years. This is a reminder that, as you make your summer sojourns, please collect water from your special places and bring a small amount with you for the water ceremony. We’ll then gather for our ceremony outside (weather permitting) and water our gardens as we welcome each other back from summer. Come to a candidate’s forum Tuesday Aug 4 in downtown Worcester

Two candidates for State Representative from the Worcester area have challengers this time. 

AND they’ve agreed to attend a Forum hosted by the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People – essentially Black people in Worcester who are organized for change). The questions that will be put to the candidates will be about current city and state issues of concern to everyone.

The incumbent candidates are Jim O’Day and Mary Keefe. Let’s see if they have good answers to the questions.

There’s lots of work to do before the mid-terms and we need many people to do something that they can do to empower voters to make their voices heard for the Primary and Midterm elections!  

Make phone calls with Center for Common Ground

I will be leading the training on July 28 and July 30 by zoom from 6 to 8 PM. – PLEASE JOIN ME!  Phone calls are the second best way of connecting with voters, next to in-person canvassing.  Calls are being made for early voting leading up to Virginia’s primary on August 4th.  They are using a very easy auto dialer, Impactive. Go to https://www.centerforcommonground.org/phonebanks for more information and to sign up.  If you want to make calls on your own, simple instructions are provided and you can make calls between 9 AM and 8 PM for the time zone you’re calling.

Write postcards with Reclaim Our Vote

Vickie Cox-Lanyon still has plenty of names/addresses and postcards to go to Black voters in Georgia for November’s election.  We need more people to take one or more packets of 30 to prepare before October 5th.  That gives you 2 months to work on them!  For more information and instructions, go to postcard information.  Please email Vickie via vcoxlanyon at gmail dot com to get your postcards.  ROV is the voting rights campaign of the Center for Common Ground.

How about coming to a postcard writing party while the Refillery is at UUCW between 4 and 7 PM? We can catch folks who may want information on voting at the same time. Save the date for Tuesday, August 11th.  If the weather is nice we can sit outside or go into one of the classrooms.

Write letters to Pennsylvania with Vote Forward

Vote Forward has a campaign for sending an Election Planner to newly registered voters in PA.  They have a 2-sided letter formatted to be folded in fourths and a place for you to write a brief message to the voter. Letters can be printed in batches of 5 or 20. Go to https://votefwd.org/instructions  OR you can order a letter kit to be sent to you from Vote Forward (donations appreciated).  Letters are to be mailed in October.  For help, contact Beth via gotv@uucworcester.org.

Take a batch with you on vacation…they take up very little room in a suitcase or tote bag.

Bless those who father through creativity— building, repairing, imagining, and tending the world so that children may inherit something sturdier, kinder, more whole.

Bless those who father through justice— advocating, protecting, challenging systems, and showing the young what courage looks like in motion.

Bless those who father through care— offering safety, guidance, tenderness, or a listening ear even when they themselves were not well fathered.

Bless those who long to father, those who have lost children, those estranged or grieving, and those whose fathering journeys took unexpected turns.

And bless those who are still learning how to father— which is all of us, in one way or another— as we shape a world worthy of the children who will inherit it.

May we go forward with open hands, willing hearts, and the courage to nurture life wherever we find it.
