The current administration is doing everything it can to interfere with people’s right to vote. In addition, long held voter protections have been struck down by recent Supreme Court decisions. We can fight voter suppression by communicating through postcards, letters and phone calls. Help empower voters to make their voices heard for the Midterm elections! The current priorities are postcards and letters to voters in Georgia and North Carolina.

Write postcards with Reclaim Our Vote (ROV)

On Tuesday, August 25th, join Vickie Cox-Lanyon and me for a postcard writing party while the Refillery is at UUCW between 4 and 7 PM. We can catch folks who may want information on voting at the same time. If the weather is nice, we can sit outside or go into one of the classrooms.

Want to do postcards on your own? Vickie still has plenty of packets with names/addresses and postcards to go to Black voters in Georgia for November’s election before October 5th. Please email vcoxlanyon@gmail.com to get your postcards or arrange to get them on August 25th at UUCW. You’ll have several weeks to work on them. ROV is the voting rights campaign of the Center for Common Ground. For more information and instructions, go to postcard information.

Write letters to voters with Vote Forward

Vote Forward has a new campaign to write to voters in NC. Although labeled as a political campaign, it is a non-partisan message, referring voters to Ballotpedia, a non-partisan resource. Go to https://votefwd.org/get-involved#downballot to print out your letters. The template leaves room to write a statement of why voting matters to you and then needs to be put in an envelope with the address of the voter. Letters are to be mailed in October. For help, contact Beth via gotv@uucworcester.org.

You can download a batch of 5 to practice and then try 20. Take a batch with you on vacation…they take up very little room in a suitcase or tote bag.

Make phone calls with the Center for Common Ground

Center for Common Ground will start making calls for the Midterm election during the week of August 18th. National guided phonebanks are held on zoom Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 PM ET using the auto-dialer Impactive. Go to https://www.centerforcommonground.org/phonebanks for more information and to sign up for a phonebank meeting. If you want to make calls on your own, simple instructions are provided and you can make calls between 9 AM and 8 PM for the time zone you’re calling.

Do you want to help plan activities for the fall election season? Our next Get Out the Vote Team meeting will be held by zoomThursday, August 13, at 6:30. For the zoom link Or to be added to our email distribution list, contact Beth via gotv@uucworcester.org

Put your faith into action and fight against voter suppression. Each call, postcard and letter can make a difference! Keep track of your activities (# of calls, postcards and/or letters) and report them to Beth for meeting our Good Trouble Congregation goals. Any questions, contact Beth directly or via gotv@uucworcester.org.

Make sure you are ready to vote. Here’s a link to a voting information flyer with resources that folks may need for the September 1st Primary or November 4th Midterm election.
On Sunday, September 13, 2026, members and friends are invited to gather in person and online for our Annual Fall Sunday Morning Worship of Return following our summer ventures. This service will include a Water Ceremony, a tradition we have observed for many years. This is a reminder that, as you make your summer sojourns, please collect water from your special places and bring a small amount with you for the water ceremony. We’ll then gather for our ceremony outside (weather permitting) and water our gardens as we welcome each other back from summer. If you have any questions about this ceremony or service, please do not hesitate to contact our minister, Rev. Aaron Payson (minister@uucworcester.org).

The post Ingathering Service and Water Ceremony – September 13, 2026 first appeared on Unitarian Universalist Church of Worcester.
