May this day honor all who father the next generation in ways seen and unseen, named and unnamed.

Bless those who father by raising children— with patience, humor, late night worry, and everyday love.

Bless those who father through mentorship— teachers, coaches, neighbors, elders, and friends whose steady presence shapes a young person’s becoming.

Bless those who father through creativity— building, repairing, imagining, and tending the world so that children may inherit something sturdier, kinder, more whole.

Bless those who father through justice— advocating, protecting, challenging systems, and showing the young what courage looks like in motion.

Bless those who father through care— offering safety, guidance, tenderness, or a listening ear even when they themselves were not well fathered.

Bless those who long to father, those who have lost children, those estranged or grieving, and those whose fathering journeys took unexpected turns.

And bless those who are still learning how to father— which is all of us, in one way or another— as we shape a world worthy of the children who will inherit it.

May we go forward with open hands, willing hearts, and the courage to nurture life wherever we find it.

#uucwreads highlights the ways that books are part of our members’ and staff’s lives. Writing is all in the family for the Ledoux/Case clan.

Stephen Ledoux, his wife Nelly Case and their two adult children, Miles Ledoux and Susannah Sudborough are all either authors or journalists.

Stephen has a Ph.D. in Behaviorology, the natural science of human behavior (which is not part of psychology). He has written ten books, and either co-authored or been one of a multiple-authored book five times. He also has a new book in the pipeline, soon to be published.

Stephen founded an independent press in the late 1980’s that has grown to include a broad mix of textbooks, study guides, essay collections, autobiographies, fiction, photography collections, and even recipe books.

Nelly, who has a Ph.D. in Musicology, has authored six books and co-authored one.

Stephen and Nelly’s books are available on Lulu.com and other vendor’s sites.

Miles, who has a Masters in Screenwriting, has a thirteen book mystery novella series (Winter in the Veil). These books are available on Kindle and Barnes & Noble, and he has e-books on many different websites.

Miles also has written plays, screenplays, murder mystery party games and made a short film. He also has a You Tube channel where he compares Agatha Christie adaptations to the stories they were based on. Miles is also a Director.

Susannah, who has a Masters in Journalism, has worked for numerous newspapers and is currently on online journalist for MassLive. Her major interest is investigative journalism. She has collaborated on a radio play about a haunted house with her brother Miles.

In the present climate we find ourselves – it is more important now than it ever has been – to support those in our society who have been marginalized- Volunteering a couple hours once a month is all it takes to make an impact and a real difference in another’s life. UUCW has committed to provide a meal on the first Monday of each month to the men and women of Dismas House – a transitional first step in re-entering society post incarceration.

We are looking for a couple volunteers to join us in this vital work.

After a 100 yard walk into the woods, We will set up camp around our lean-to (log shelter).  After lunch and on Sunday, we will hike in the adjacent wild lands, including some bushwhacking and a section of the Mid State Trail running through these woods. 

This is a beautiful area of rolling hills, mixed hardwoods and pines, wetlands, a river, and a pond.  Including a wildlife corridor valued by conservation organizations, the area is inhabited by abundant wildlife.  In addition to porcupines, the tracks of coyotes, snowshoe hares, squirrels, beaver, and mice, fisher, bear, and moose have been sighted in the area from time to time.

What to bring:

Provisions for lunch, supper, breakfast, and lunch.

Rain gear.

Camping equipment, including cooking gear, sleeping bags and insulating mattress, and your tent.

The woodlot abuts Princeton Land Trust and Massachusetts State Forest acreage and is a short walk from the scenic valley of the Ware River.

A ten foot by ten foot Adirondack shelter and fire pit provide a center for group activities.  There are plenty of tent sites near the shelter.

Participants will bring their own food, camping gear, tents, and sleeping gear and are invited to cook their meals over the campfire.

Many of us begin the church year with a weekend of retreat, reunion, and reflection at Ferry Beach in Saco, Maine (http://www.ferrybeach.org).  The weekend is affordable and open to everyone. We join together with friends from First Unitarian Church for beach walks, volleyball, time to rest, a talent show, and even a campfire!
