UUCW Refugee Ministry Team – Afghan Refugee Family Update – February 8, 2022

It was Jan. 11th when we met our Afghan Family at Bradley Airport on one of the coldest nights of the Winter.  Life has been very busy since then.  Here’s what we, and they have been up to:

  • The family lived in temporary housing until last week when they finally moved into their Apartment off Plantation Street
  • All the children are enrolled in the New Citizens School.
  • The family is receiving State benefits.
  • We are helping them with some medical and dental issues.
  • One of the young men started a new job last week
  • They have begun ESL classes
  • They will be learning to ride the bus

Most importantly, we are strengthening our relationship with them.  We enjoy chai tea with them and the Mother is a terrific hostess.!  We enjoy our visits with them and more people have joined the “Allyship Team” which consists of members from  UUCW, Immanuel Lutheran of Holden and Congregation Beth Israel.

Yes, it’s been very busy.  We could still use your help with transportation and a host of other things.  If you are interested, contact:    And, it goes without saying, that a family of 12 needs a lot of financial support.  If you have a little to give, please use the following link:  https://secure.givelively.org/teams/ascentria-care-alliance/help-afghan-families/allyship
