  Youth Choir 2006-2007

We would like to invite your child to consider singing in the UUCW Youth Choir. Music can be a powerful influence for good in our lives - and something that each child should have an opportunity to experience firsthand.  In addition, the spirit of teamwork and collaboration that comes from being a part of a choir working together to create beautiful music can enhance other aspects of your child's life.

Who can sing in the Youth Choir?

We invite children and youth Grade 2 and older to join the Youth Choirs.  As children near adulthood, we encourage them to join and sing with the Adult Choir as well.

Does you child need to know how to read music?

No, the ability to read music is not a requirement to become a choir member.  In fact, during rehearsals, two goads will be to help your children learn how to read music, and to help them become more confident and accomplished singers.

When and where will the Youth Choir rehearse?

This year, the Youth Choir will rehearse Monday afternoons from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.  We do not rehearse Mondays that are federal holidays.  We also rehearse Sunday mornings when the Youth Choir sings during the service.  We'll rehearse in the church-though the room may changes from time to time.  We'll post a sign at the RE entrance to let you know the room.

  When do rehearsals being?

Our first rehearsal is Monday, October 16 at 4:30 p.m. - and each choir member will get an information sheet that includes full schedule of the rehearsals planned for the year.

How often will the Youth Choir sing as a part of the Sunday services?

The Youth Choir will sing between three and five times during this year.  We will include singing at two special services in our church: the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on Sunday November 19 and 3 p.m. and the Vespers Service which will be held Sunday December 17 at 4 p.m.  Please check the web site calendar for dates.

What will the Youth Choir sing?

Our repertoire will be centered around the UU Children's Song Book - a wonderful compilation of songs appropriate for children at several skill levels.  In addition, we will sing other selected pieces on our own and with the Adult Choir.

What can I do to help?

First and foremost, help your child attend rehearsals regularly.  Second, please come to performances of the choir.  Third, if you are a musician, we could use your help teaching kids basic concepts on a two-to-one basis as we deal with children who are starting with different skills.  Please let me know if you are interested in helping in this way.  Finally, sign up to be the second adult in the room during choir rehearsals.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the Youth Choir and its plans.
