Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry News – November 20, 2018

It has been an amazing yet difficult month at the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.

Let’s me tell you about amazing first.  It is absolutely amazing that the people of our Church donated food so that the children in RE could package 58 “Thanksgiving Bags”.  It is amazing that the crew that went to the Food Bank picked up over 1 ton of food, that over 20 volunteers helped set it up, that easily that many volunteers (perhaps more) came on Saturday to help distribute it.  And, that we gave out food to 87 families on Saturday wishing them a Happy Thanksgiving with smiles on our faces!  Thank you to all who helped in whatever way.  By the time Thanksgiving rolls around that number may be up to 95.  THANK YOU for supporting us in whatever way you do.

Why do I say it’s difficult?  It’s hard to understand why this many people are hungry in our area.  It’s really hard.  Many are elderly.  They break our hearts (at least mine).  I believe the latest statistic is that 1 in 6 people in Worcester are hungry.  This in a country that prospers.  It’s hard.  It’s heartbreaking.  Yet, we continue to do our best to meet our mission.  That is what we are all charged to do.

Be grateful for what you have this Thanksgiving.  Give to the Food Pantry when you can.  And, thank you for helping us this year.
